Tylsar is an expert player, technically up to the challenges of these concertos for one of the orchestra's most temperamental and unpredictable instruments. Tylsar has a relatively small tone by American or German standards, and slightly more vibrato than is fashionable in the West, but he is totally secure, plays with flawless intonation, and his articulations are absolutely clean. He has a strong interpretive gift and breathes life into these works, several of which can falter musically unless they are shaped by an independent imagination. Tylsar's interpretive skill is especially.
R. Strauss, F. J. Strauss & Mozart: Horn Concertos. This album has received following awards: Diapason d'Or de l' Année - Diapason Magazine (2006). This set of four concertos for French horn and orchestra, magnificently played by longtime horn soloist of the Czech Philharmonic Zdeněk Tylšar, represents a mere fraction of what this extraordinary, world-class musician has recorded for Supraphon. Mozart's Concerto in E flat major, K 417 is a proving ground for French horn players, a piece which demands technical brilliance, and Tylšar manages the solo part in grand style
In the French horn world, the names of brothers Zdeněk (d. August 18, 2006) and Bedřich Tylšar, former soloists of the Czech Philharmonic, are a mark of excellent artistic performance. On this double album the Tylšars perform these freshly released recordings of double French horn concertos of the second half of the 18th century. The anthology is rounded out by the inclusion of the unique triple concerto by Hanisch, a brilliant hornist who was active in the late 18th century in Prague and in Germany (little else of his life is known). Beethoven's Sextet also showcases the Tylšar brothers.
