Mas Ysa, the moniker for Thomas Arsenault, a 30-year-old musician and producer from Canada, smoothly blends his raspy vocals with spellbinding whirlwinds of sound on his debut EP, Worth. After spending two years traveling across the globe from the North American continent all the way down to Brazil, Worth serves as Mas Ysa’s musical vessel with 9 cathartic tracks that explore the realms of experimental electronic production. It’s easy to see why ‘Why’ is the lead single off the EP– the catchy, mind-blowing song is bursting with buoyant energy and beats straight out of the ’80s.

Unsurprisingly, "Margarita" falls in line with what we've come to expect of Mas Ysa-real name Thomas Arsenault-a track that operates on the fringe of self-doubt and frustration, somehow feeling so urgent, shoving its poigancy in your face. But weirdly, the song puts you on the edge, the trembling in his voice leaving you with a feeling that at any moment, you could just collapse into a vast, empty black hole of nothing. It's rare that such emotional punch can be packed into a piece of art that, at its core, is so minimal.
Mas Ysa released his melodramatic and extremely satisfying debut single Why in the back half of 2013, followed that up with last year’s Worth EP, and now he’s finally put enough songs together to make his first full-length. It’s called Seraph, and will contain last month’s massive-sounding Look U. .
Mas Ysa: "Margarita" (via SoundCloud). Mas Ysa, the project of Thomas Arsenault, has announced his debut full-length. Seraph is the follow-up to his 2014 Worth EP, and it's out July 24 via Downtown. That's the album track "Margarita"-a song named in honor of his mother-above. He said of the song: "This is named for my mom, who's also on the cover art of everything I do. It deals with the trauma of becoming your own autonomous person and that person when you see your parent as a fallible person.
