This Is Hardcore is the sixth album by English band Pulp, first released in March 1998. It came three years after their breakthrough album, Different Class, and was eagerly anticipated. In 2013, NME ranked it at number 166 in its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. As with the band's previous album, Different Class, it reached No. 1 in the UK Albums Chart, and was well received critically, earning Pulp a third successive nomination for the 1998 Mercury Prize.

Then Pulp threw the gauntlet of This Is Hardcore, an unsparing send-off and hangover for the day after the revolution-or was it all just a fashionable party? The group’s sixth album was immediately met with controversy. Its cover, by artists Peter Saville and John Currin, features an uncanny valley portrait of a Hollywood blonde, her nude torso bent over red satin sheets. Her elongated neck arcs unsettlingly towards her open mouth and detached eyes, the album’s hot pink title stamped obscenely across her skin
It's the centerpiece of the album, and the best moments follow its tone. Some, like "The Fear," "Seductive Barry," and "Help the Aged," wear their fear on their sleeves, some cloak it in Bowie-esque dance grooves ("Party Hard") or in hushed, resigned tones ("Dishes"). A few others, such as the scathing "I'm a Man" or "A Little Soul," have a similar vibe without being explicitly dark.
This Is Hardcore Lyrics. You are hardcore, you make me hard You name the drama and I'll play the part It seems I saw you in some teenage wet dream I like your get up if you know what I mean. I want it bad I want it now Oh, can't you see I'm ready now? I've seen all the pictures, I studied them forever I wanna make a movie so let's star in it together, oh oh Don't make a move 'til I say, "Action. From their 1998 album of the same name, This Is Hardcore is an epic song which is so far removed from the band’s more well known Disco Pop songs such as Common People and Disco 2000, replacing the synths, melodies and upbeat tempo with something slower, darker and moodier. The whole album is singer Jarvis Cocker’s memoirs of him coming to terms with fame, and this song, the centrepiece of the whole album, compares being a succesful musician to the life of a porn star.
