Album · 2007 · 14 Songs. St. Paul's Suite, Op. 29, No. 2: IV. Finale (The Dargason). 12. Brook Green Suite: I. Prelude. 13. Brook Green Suite: II. Air. 2:40. More By Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. See All. A Brand New Me: Aretha Franklin (with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra).

The St. Paul's Suite for string orchestra is not the showpiece its predecessor on the disc is, but it is a delightful collection of dances that are almost as popular and certainly as memorable in this vigorous and buoyant reading. The only drawback to settling on this CD is that it duplicates the tracks on a 1994 release on the Alto label, yet lacks that album's bonus of the Brook Green Suite for strings; if that disc can be found, it is preferable. Still, if this disc is all that can be found, it is well worth acquiring and hearing many times.

Vernon Handley, Royal Philharmonic. This is the best record of Holst's the Planets you can get. Believe me, I have tried them all. No other recording shows such grandiose detail and dynamics, it is as if you sit within the orchestra. They recorded this with 48 microphones. Also note: There are several albums with different covers around. They are all from the same recording. One is available as SACD multichannel, but the Stereo Versions are all the same.
